Young Birders Club: Sandy Wool Lake at Ed Levin

Join the Young Birders Club for an evening bird walk at Ed Levin County Park. We'll walk around Sandy Wool Lake looking for ducks and geese, and the adjacent lawns for the last of our lingering swallows and orioles while looking for new fall migrants


This trip is designed for young birders, but parents and siblings are welcome to attend. We welcome birders of all skill levels! Loaner binoculars are available for participants.

Trip Difficulty: 1 mile, packed dirt and gravel trails

Leaders: Kaiting

Loaner Binoculars Available, Beginner Friendly, 2 hours or less, No elevation gain

Meet: Main parking lot right next to the lake

Directions: From I-680 in Milpitas, exit E Calaveras Blvd and go east for 2 miles. Turn left onto Downing Rd and continue for 1.1 miles going past Sandy Wool Lake. The large parking lot will be on your right. Latitude/Longitude: 37.456300, -121.865329

Facilities: ADA accessible bathroom, drinking water, cell coverage may be intermittent or non-existent

Parking: paved lot, $6 fee
